Property Description
Back on market! Buyer did not perform.
THIS IS A GOLD MINE! Literally! The investment offers a singularly unique opportunity to acquire the land and productive gold mine. The Castac Mine property includes 58+ acres of surface area and approximately 1 mile of open shafts. The property is completely surrounded by miles of National Forest Service lands. This is the only privately owned land in miles.
The property is located approximately 10 miles south of the city of Gorman, approximately 8 miles due west of the northern tip of Pyramid Lake. Gorman is located approximately 40 minutes north of downtown Los Angeles, right off the I-5 freeway, near the LA/Kern/Ventura County line. From there it's about a 15 min drive to the main gate. Road access is via a private gated Forest Service road---property has permanent access due to "grand-fathered" easement. Property existed before Forest Service.
The mine is approximately 600 feet up the side of a steep mountain face (a 30 minute hike up from the river-bottom area) at approximately 4,000 ft elevation. The property includes several acres in the river bottom below and the relatively flat mountain-top above. From the top of the mountain (about 100 feet from the top), you could use relatively small equipment to drill/dig to the very specific largest vein, which runs approx. 3' wide and 600' in length through the property. You could also mine through the existing tunnel system, which is dry and beam-less, but in decent condition, considering no significant work has been done to it in nearly 50 years. The main entrance caved in about 10 years ago and it was intentionally not reopened, to keep trespassers from entering. The opening could be dug out & reopened in a day or less---all the main interior tunnels are passable and in decent condition. There are 3 main horizontal levels, the longest of which (the main entrance bottom level) is approximately 1000'
long. The 2 higher levels and various side-shafts currently require ladders to access.
There are numerous historical and anecdotal evidences of substantial gold (and other trace minerals, including silver and platinum) coming from the mine, including several certified assays. There are also several different reports and historical accounts going back to the 1830's detailing this.
